The mission and purpose of this organization is:
* to promote scholarship and to recognize academic excellence in social studies in secondary school environments and the community.

* to provide through its local chapters opportunities for exploration in the social studies in secondary school environments and the community.

* to encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies.

Candidates for membership should:
Have been in attendance at the school in which the chapter resides for the equivalent of one semester prior to being considered.

Today during lunch, Spectrum will be hosting a Lunch and Learn with Professor Shakur on “The History of Black History Month. Please come participate in this great opportunity to learn more about Black History Month! Refreshments will be served.

Professor Shakur is the founder of the African Diaspora in Charlotte and the Director of Development for the International Museum of Muslim Cultures. He is an incredible writer, historian, and lecturer, and teaches about the culture and history of people of African descent.

Cannon Theater Company will present the hysterical farce “A School For Scandal” next week Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (Feb 11-13) at 7:00pm! 1777 will meet 2016 as we present Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s outrageous 18th century scandal-mongers as present day residents of Lake Norman. Sheridan’s dazzlingly witty dialogue will mingle with contemporary costumes, music, and video sequences to remind us just how timeless this story is. Tickets can be purchased at the door and will be free for Cannon students and employees, $10 for other adults, and $5 for non-Cannon students.
