Tuesday, November 8^th we will have visitors on campus for voting. To accommodate traffic flow near the buildings: 

Juniors and Sophomores – Park on the practice field located to the left of the baseball field. There will be maintenance workers directing you to park there. 

Juniors – Please park down by the baseball field and no farther up than the lower tennis courts.

Seniors – You may park in senior parking, but know that faculty may be parking there as well. You can park down the road toward the baseball field as long as it is in an actual spot (not on the grass).  Thanks in advance!

Halloween is coming up quickly, and House Animus wants to make sure that our armed forces can get some treats too. The House is teaming up with Operation Gratitude in their Candy Buyback program  to collect any leftover candy you may have from Halloween (including chocolate, but no Pixy Stix please) and unused dental hygiene products. There will be collection boxes at the front and back entrances to the school  for everyone and one for teachers in the teacher workroom. All donations will be accepted until November 11 (Veterans Day). Mix it Up day was created in 2002 to “encourage students to break down social barriers by sitting and interacting with someone new for just one day.” Cannon will be celebrating by giving each upper school member a sticker in advisory. Oxbridge offers students the opportunity to spend the summer in one of 10 locations across Europe and the United States. Students select from over 180 subjects such as Medicine, Law, Engineering, Drama, Photography and Fashion, in cities like Oxford, Cambridge, Paris, Barcelona, New York, Los Angeles and more. Stop by to pick up a brochure and learn more about this amazing summer study abroad opportunity.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST  is MIX IT UP DAY!! Mix it Up day was created in 2002 to “encourage students to break down social barriers by sitting and interacting with someone new for just one day.” Cannon will be celebrating by giving each upper school member a sticker in advisory. Around the school, students and teachers will have the same stickers, and everyone is encouraged to talk or introduce themselves to people with the same sticker in the hallway or classes. At lunch, tables will be set up according to what sticker you have, and people can to sit with someone different or include someone new at their table.

Halloween is coming up quickly, and House Animus wants to make sure that our armed forces can get some treats too. The House is teaming up with Operation Gratitude in their Candy Buyback program  to collect any leftover candy you may have from Halloween (including chocolate, but no Pixy Stix please) and unused dental hygiene products. There will be collection boxes at the front and back entrances to the school  for everyone and one for teachers in the teacher workroom. All donations will be accepted until November 11 (Veterans Day). [My name is Karlie Redfern and I’m a senior. For my Capstone, I am hosting a 4v4 COED volleyball tournament (all skill levels are encouraged to play :)) to raise money for the Military Order of the Purple Heart. My Grandfather received a Purple Heart during the Vietnam war and has done a lot for his community such as establishing many organizations as Purple Heart Supporters (High Schools, businesses, and even the Bank of America Stadium). He plays a big role in the organization and in my life so this means a lot to me. This is open to all upper school students and faculty who want to participate. The tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 3rd at 2pm (@ Cannon). This means those who are taking the SAT that day will have plenty of time to get to the school and play! The entry fee will be $20 per team ($5 per person) and those who aren’t able to participate can also donate money. You will pay upfront as you check in your team. The winning team will receive four $20 gift cards to Chick-fil-A and most importantly, bragging rights. I need to know your team (first and last name of each player) and team name or if you are dropping out by November 25^th!!!! You can email, text, or tell me in person. If you are interested in playing but don’t have a full team, I will help you find other players or teams who are needing an extra player or two. As the date gets closer, I will send out more information on the format of the actual tournament and who is going to be playing who. TONIGHT is Movie In The Quad!!!! It is the night before House Games so you won’t have any homework :). Last year we had over 100 people attend so this year let’s make it 200! We will be showing Pitch Perfect as the movie this year. There will be all you can eat pizza for a small price of a $5. Come dressed up to enter the Costume Contest and win a Chick-Fil-A  gift card! We will have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. You can enter alone or as a group! The event will take place in the outside cafeteria with heaters. Bring blankets and pillows! There will be candy and popcorn since it is close to Halloween.

Cougars On-Site Workshop: Friday, October, 28^th 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Cannon School College Counseling will host a workshop for Juniors focused on developing the skills necessary to secure a summer job, internship or job shadowing experience.  An overview will be given on topics of decision making, cover letter and resume writing, interviewing and networking. Juniors must register by October 24^th to attend, space is limited.  Email Kristin McClanahan at kmcclanahan@cannonschool.org to secure your spot.  Cougars On-Site will also be offered as a 4-day Winterm Course in January.  The course will be more in-depth than the workshop.  Students who complete the Winterm course will have a finished resume and cover letter, have experienced a mock interview, participated in an etiquette lunch and developed a networking contact list. More information will be released soon on how to register for Winterm courses.

Cougars On-Site Workshop: Friday, October, 28^th 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Cannon School College Counseling will host a workshop for Juniors focused on developing the skills necessary to secure a summer job, internship or job shadowing experience.  An overview will be given on topics of decision making, cover letter and resume writing, interviewing and networking. Juniors must register by October 24^th to attend, space is limited.  Email Kristin McClanahan at kmcclanahan@cannonschool.org to secure your spot.  Cougars On-Site will also be offered as a 4-day Winterm Course in January.  The course will be more in-depth than the workshop.  Students who complete the Winterm course will have a finished resume and cover letter, have experienced a mock interview, participated in an etiquette lunch and developed a networking contact list. More information will be released soon on how to register for Winterm courses.
