Model UN team members who have signed up for CHARMUN: there will be a mandatory meeting at lunch next Monday, October 1 AND another meeting the following Monday, October 8, in the Library Annex. We will be working on preparations for CHARMUN, announcing your country assignments, and helping you master Parliamentary Procedure. On Tuesday, October 9, your position papers are DUE at the time of the meeting for review by Declan Hurley and other members of the executive board. If you have issues with attending the meetings, please see Mrs. Shaefer, to ensure that your country assignment will be held for you.


Students for Constitutional Government will meet for the first time on Thursday, September 27th in Foundation Hall (11:15am-12pm). Please email Declan Hurley if you are interested in running for an officer position.

Lunch & Learn: Governor’s School is a selective 5-week academic summer program offered by the state of North Carolina.  Come to The Cube during lunch to hear from College Counseling and Amelie Kadackal (Governor’s School Summer 2018 participant) about the program, as well as the nomination and application process.  Governor’s School is only open to current juniors, but all underclassmen are welcome to attend to learn about the program.


Seniors: The College Counseling Team will offer Drop – In Hours for Seniors in The Cube on the following dates: 10/3, 10/24 and 11/7.

(Please make note of this change in your planner)  There will also be a College Application Workshop on 10/10 from 9 – 11:15 a.m. in the CPAC

Lia Carnes and Renee Boisvert went over and beyond on Friday when helping a student get her biology project which had been accidentally left in a classroom, we celebrate their immense KINDNESS!

Isabella Friedli demonstrated KINDNESS when she emailed a teacher about a PowerSchool page. Thank you, Isabella!

Do you have a passion for science?  Are you creative with LEGOS? Are you good at sports?  Would you like to work with children and pass on your knowledge?
Beyond the Bell has several opportunities for Upper School students to volunteer to work with some of our classes, in a wide range of areas of interest.
Dance – Engineering – Science – LEGO – Tumbling – Theatre – Soccer – Running
There is a different opportunity each day of the week.Contact the Director of Enrichment Programs, Lisa Blattner at lblattner@cannonschool.org for further details.


Internship Opportunity!    2 Available:
Working with the Director of Enrichment Programs at Cannon School and learning the process and details of Beyond the Bell and Camp Cannon.
This internship would be appropriate for an Upper School student who is interested in career fields like
Event Planning – Logistics – Camp Administration – Organization – Public Relations – Facility Operations
Duties involve helping with: creating brochures & advertisements, building class & camp schedules, tracking several types of data, maintaining rosters, etc.  Interns would be expected to be available on a regular basis throughout the year, averaging a couple hours per week. Some weeks may be busier than others. The exact timing will be customized to work with the interns’ schedules for school, homework, & extra curriculars.

Cannon School’s IT Department would like to remind students that Google should never prompt you to change your password. Student passwords sync together (Wi-Fi, Email, Google, PowerSchool), so any change must be handled through the Cannon School IT Department. If you are prompted to change your password by a popup that looks like Google, do not change it. You should bring your computer to the IT Department (Room 506) so they can help you.


Lunch & Learn: Governor’s School is a selective 5-week academic summer program offered by the state of North Carolina.  Come to The Cube during lunch to hear from College Counseling and Amelie Kadackal (Governor’s School Summer 2018 participant) about the program, as well as the nomination and application process.  Governor’s School is only open to current juniors, but all underclassmen are welcome to attend to learn about the program.

Fall 2018 Driver Education Program

This year, Cannon School has contracted with a local company to offer a driver education program during the fall semester. Classes and behind-the-wheel instruction will be provided by WatsOnWheels (https://www.watsonwheelsnc.com/).  WatsOnWheels has agreed to offer Cannon students a discount and provide the course for $350 per student.  The classes will be held Monday – Friday, November 5th- 16th in Foundation Hall from 3:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Students must be 14½ years of age when the classes begin to be eligible to register. To complete the class, students must have thirty hours of class time and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.  We hope to offer another class in the spring through WatsOnWheels, but we have yet to schedule specific dates.

After the class portion is complete, the instructor will coordinate with students individually to complete the behind-the-wheel requirements during their school drop periods or after school hours.

The $350 fee is due on the first day of class and may be charged to the student’s Cannon School account or paid in the form of a check made out to “Watson Wheels LLC”.

Fall 2018 Driver Education Program

This year, Cannon School has contracted with a local company to offer a driver education program during the fall semester. Students interested in playing men’s lacrosse for Cannon in the spring of 2019 should plan to meet with Coach Schattner on TODAY, Sept. 6 at 11:15 am in the Library Annex.  Details about the upcoming spring season will be discussed.

MUSICAL AUDITIONS!

Auditions for Cannon Theater Company’s winter musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” are happening September 11 (with some additional dates/times available for fall athletes.) All interested students grade 8-12 should follow the four steps/links below, which will also be accessible soon at www.cannonschool.org/ctc:
Step 1: Sign up here for one acting/singing time slot and one dancing time slot.
Step 2: Fill out this online audition form.
Step 3: Find audition instructions, scripts, and sheet music, here. It’s a google drive document that should be accessible by any Cannon student.
Step 4: Follow these YouTube links to hear recordings of the audition songs; male auditioners will sing “Accident Waiting To Happen,” (0:00-0:47) and females will sing “As We Stumble Along” (0:00-1:02.)

Seniors: The College Counseling Team will offer Drop – In Hours for Seniors in The Cube on the following dates: 9/18, 10/3, and 11/7.

9/26: Tulane University will host an evening program.  Register to attend. 7 – 8:30 p.m. Providence Day School, 5800 Sardis Rd.

9/26: Belmont University: will be hosting an information session at Charlotte Christian School (7301 Sardis Rd., Charlotte, NC 28270) at 6:00 PM for high school juniors and seniors from the Charlotte area.  It’s a great opportunity to learn more about Belmont, the application process, scholarships and financial aid, and address any questions that you may have.  You may register via this link.


Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores are invited to sign-up on Family Connection to visit with College Admission Representatives coming to Cannon School.  Students must get permission from their classroom teachers prior to attending an admissions event.
