The Varsity Swim Team will have an interest meeting on Wednesday at 11:00 in the Middle School ThinkTank. You can grab your lunch and meet Coach Northrup for a 20 minute overview of the season and expectations for the 2016 team. Go AquaCougars!
Any UPPER SCHOOL girl who plans to play GIRLS BASKETBALL this winter should make plans to attend a FINAL interest meeting in Coach Kulp’s room (612) on Thursday, Oct. 6, during Student Choice. Important details regarding practice times, game schedule, and spirit pack orders will be discussed. If you are playing basketball this winter and CANNOT attend Thursday’s meeting, please see Coach Kulp prior to Fall Break.
There will be a math club interest meeting on this Thursday (October 6th) in Room 504 during lunch. We will be playing some fun games and discussing future plans for US Math Team. Come and have fun with math!! Ma+hletes unite!
Participants are needed to represent Cannon School at the upcoming Academic WorldQuest Competition scheduled for Thursday, November 10th at the Westin Charlotte. The competition begins at 5:45 pm and ends at approximately 9:30 pm. AWQ is a trivia competition played by teams representing area high schools with questions focusing on contemporary politics, geography, and world history. Students interested in participating should contact Mr. Kmidowski for more information.
Princeton Review SAT Prep Fall and Winter Workshops are open for registration. The Fall Course runs 10/15 until 11/19 for the 12/3 or 1/21 test. The Winter Course runs 1/21 until 2/25 for the 3/11 or 5/6 test. Detailed schedules and registration link can be found on the SAT Prep page on the Cannon website. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended.
“Interested in a Summer Study Abroad or exploring GAP Year options after high school? Come speak with a representative from ISA on Wed., Oct. 12th during lunch in the Private Dining Room. ISA High School offers summer programs through accredited foreign universities in China, Costa Rica,France, Italy, Peruand Spain. Students are able to sign-up independently, and have the opportunity to earn college credit and volunteer hourswhile abroad.” Open to all Upper School students.
Seniors interested in applying for any one of the following scholarships, must submit his/her scholarship applications to Ms. Mann no later than Oct. 19th at 3:30 pm.
Juniors-– North Carolina Governor’s School applications are due to Ms. Mann by Oct. 19 at 3:30 pm.
Sophomores—If you are interested in being nominated to attend the HOBY Leadership Seminar, please contact Ms. Mann. Applications (which will include a brief essay and resume) for nomination consideration will be due no later than Oct. 19 at 3:30 pm.
Fall 2016 Driver Education Program
This year, Cannon will again offer a driver education program during the fall semester. Classes, which will be taught by a Cabarrus County Schools employee, will be held in Foundation Hall from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- October 24-26
- October 31 – November 3
- November 7-10
- November 14-17
- November 21-22 (make-up days)
Students who will be 15 years of age after May 31, 2017 are eligible to register. To complete the class, students must have thirty hours of class time and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.
After the class portion is complete, the instructor, Mr. Brewer, will coordinate with individual students to complete the behind-the-wheel requirements during their drop periods or after school.
The $65 fee must be paid in the form of a check made out to Cabarrus County Schools.
