We will have the pleasure of hearing Megan speak in person about her career and best writing advice. The event will likely take place in one of the English hallway rooms. ***September 26th through October 2nd is Banned Books Week.

Banned Books Week is an annual event that spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools and brings together the entire book community in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even ideas that contain uncomfortable truths.

Authors and leaders will discuss censorship at the September 29th Zoom event “Ideas & Action,” hosted by One World (an imprint of Random House), with co-sponsorship from American Library Association and partnership from BookPeople. Attendees will hear from authors who have faced censorship such as Ta-Nehisi Coates (Between the World and Me), Nikole Hannah-Jones (“The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story”), Ibram X. Kendi (How to Be an Antiracist), and Bryan Stevenson (Just Mercy) as they reflect on the question “What do you wish you had learned in school?” The event starts at 8:00 p.m. and registration is free.

We have improved the sign in process in the Upper School Office by adding bar codes to the back of student ID’s.  Please see the video below showing the new procedure.

If you haven’t received a bar code, please stop by the office and one can be added to your key card.

Also, as a reminder……please do not keep your card by your phone.  While it is a convenient place, the phone actually heats up the card causing it to stop working.

Seniors, Juniors & Sophomores are invited to sign-up in SCOIR for visits with College Admission Representatives. Representatives have the option to visit Cannon School in-person or via Zoom. Check SCOIR for the most up-to-date listing of college representative visits and to learn in what format they will visit Cannon. Use this Zoom Meeting Link to connect for virtual visits. You may come to The Cube if you are on campus during the rep visit and need a place to log into the Zoom session. We recommend you bring headphones for the Zoom visit!

Seniors: If you are interested in being considered for a Cannon School nomination for any of these highly competitive scholarships (Levine, Morehead Cain, Park, Bryan, Belk, Centennial or Jefferson) please review the linked handouts for steps/directions on how to proceed. Contact your college counselor with specific questions.
