CVAN: Help meet the needs of battered women and their children in Cabarrus County by bringing in laundry detergent , liquid hand soap, Mr. Clean, Spic and Span, trash bags- 30 gallon black and kitchen size, twin and full size blankets, new pots and pan sets, drinking glasses, plate sets, gift cards for discount and grocery stores, and  compact fluorescent light bulbs ( 60 watt equivalent). Rachel will be judged in a panel interview ,as well as in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and acrobatic classes. During the final phase of the competition she will perform an open routine for professional judges from all over the country. If Rachel is successful at winning the state level competition she will move on to the Miss Dance of America competition in Orlando, Fla. In July. Please wish Rachel good luck.

Recycling Resumes at Cannon:  recycling

Cannon will launch their new and improved recycling program  Today Friday, November 15th to coincide with America Recycles Day. America Recycles Day is a program of Keep America Beautiful® and is “dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products.” 

The US will utilize the larger rolling bins for collection.

Cannon Theater Company will perform their production of Rhinoceros, winner of seven North Carolina Theater Conference awards, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week at 7:00pm in Taylor Hall! Each performance night will feature a different special guest presentation and a post-show Q&A with the cast and crew. On Thursday, Mrs. Huffman will discuss the personal and world events that led the playwright Ionesco to write Rhinoceros. On Friday night, Cannon visual arts students will present a gallery reception featuring original work related to themes of Rhinoceros. On Saturday night, Mr. Burlington will discuss “Music of the Avant Garde,” featuring both live and recorded performances. Tickets will be sold at the door and are free for Cannon students, faculty, and staff, and $5 for everyone else.

Student anouncement: My name is Austin Coale, I am in the 10th grade here at Cannon School, and I am collecting goods for the Humane Society this year. I have recently volunteered there, and I realized that they needed some goods badly, after talking with someone who works there; I decided to collect goods at school. I will be collecting puppy and kitten food, and also paper towels. My project is different because instead of collecting goods in the Upper School exclusively, I will be collecting canned goods at 2 home varsity basketball games. The dates for these games are the 19th and 22nd of November. There will be labeled bins near the entrance to the game where people can place their donations. If anyone has questions, he or she can e-mail me at acoale@cannonschool.org. These goods will be going to help all of the animals at the Humane Society of Concord.

Meet Conservation Scientist, Dr. Luke Dollar, Program Director for National Geographic Society’s Big Cats Initiative this Friday during Career Lunch & Learn in the Upper School Annex. Senior Athletes Kate Collum and Maija Roses are signing National Letters of Intent at 1:05 today in Foundation Hall . All are welcome to attend as these girls commit to Samford and University California at Berkeley. Congratulations girls, we are all so proud. 

Rachel Harris will be will be representing Cannon School in the Miss Dance of North Carolina competition this week in Greensboro, NC. Rachel will be judged in a panel interview ,as well as in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and acrobatic classes. During the final phase of the competition she will perform an open routine for professional judges from all over the country. If Rachel is successful at winning the state level competition she will move on to the Miss Dance of America competition in Orlando, Fla. In July. Please wish Rachel good luck.

Recycling Resumes at Cannon:  

Cannon will launch their new and improved recycling program on Friday, November 15th to coincide with America Recycles Day. America Recycles Day is a program of Keep America Beautiful® and is “dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products.” Cannon staff, faculty, and students will kick off the new recycling efforts with a special dress-down day on Friday, November 15th. Everyone is encouraged to wear appropriate jeans and an appropriate shirt that is either green or has a green message (Recycling, Earth Day, Save the Trees, etc.).

Cannon Theater Company will perform their production of Rhinoceros, winner of seven North Carolina Theater Conference awards, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week at 7:00pm in Taylor Hall! Each performance night will feature a different special guest presentation and a post-show Q&A with the cast and crew. On Thursday, Mrs. Huffman will discuss the personal and world events that led the playwright Ionesco to write Rhinoceros. On Friday night, Cannon visual arts students will present a gallery reception featuring original work related to themes of Rhinoceros. On Saturday night, Mr. Burlington will discuss “Music of the Avant Garde,” featuring both live and recorded performances. Tickets will be sold at the door and are free for Cannon students, faculty, and staff, and $5 for everyone else.

I have recently volunteered there, and I realized that they needed some goods badly, after talking with someone who works there; I decided to collect goods at school. I will be collecting puppy and kitten food, and also paper towels. My project is different because instead of collecting goods in the Upper School exclusively, I will be collecting canned goods at 2 home varsity basketball games. The dates for these games are the 19th and 22nd of November. There will be labeled bins near the entrance to the game where people can place their donations. If anyone has questions, he or she can e-mail me at acoale@cannonschool.org. These goods will be going to help all of the animals at the Humane Society of Concord.

The first annual International Festival is scheduled for Thursday, November 21st during student life. The festival is a celebration of the many cultures that form the Upper School. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to represent the country of their heritage or a country of their “heart”.   If you are interested in representing a country or performing during the festival,  please contact Mr.Kmidowski for more information.

Seniors: if you live near Davidson and are planning to go to college, would you be interested in participating  in usability testing on Tues., Nov 12, at 4, 5, or 6 p.m. (three different hour-long time slots)? Essentially participants will be asked a series of questions about college websites, including the Davidson website, their college search, etc No special knowledge is necessary.Usability tests run about an hour and Davidson will compensate participants with a $50 pre-paid credit card. Please contact Mr. Booker today if you are interested.
