The Upper Math Department would like to invite all Juniors and Seniors, who qualify, to apply for induction to Mu Alpha Theta—Cannon’s Math Honor Society.  Applications are due to Mr. Taylor no later Wednesday, March 8, 2023.  Please print the application at https://bit.ly/2Osif1j. You may give your applications directly to Mr. Taylor or to your current Math teacher.

To be inducted into Mu Alpha Theta a student must meet all of the following criteria.

You must:

  • Be a junior or senior.
  • Have completed any level of Precalculus.
  • Have been enrolled at Cannon for one full year.
  • Enrolled in or completed an AP or AT math course
  • Have earned a 3.7 unweighted GPA in all math courses.
  • Have earned a 3.5 unweighted GPA all courses.
  • Complete the application by the posted deadline

Our Academic Coaching team (Mrs. Weakland, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Ramsey, Sra. Calles, and Ms. Kaye) are ready to support YOU in the way YOU choose!  YOU decide date and time of appointment, frequency of appointments (3x is recommended!), and the content of appointment.

If you would like to make changes to your AP exam order, you may do so until Friday, March 3. You should contact Mrs. Kulp (jkulp@cannonschool.org) immediately with your change(s). After Friday, March 3, absolutely NO additions can be made to AP exam orders. Cancellation and late add fees DO apply this year per College Board. No exam refunds will be issued after April 30. Please contact Mrs. Kulp ASAP if you have questions.


Worldly Wednesdays – Student Volunteer Opportunities: Cannon Cultures is looking for student volunteers to help adorn the cafeteria and surronding area with themed decorations that will create a festive atmosphere for our monthly Worldly Wednesday events. Be a Special Olympics Volunteer!

Cannon School has been asked to take 20-30 Upper School students to volunteer at Special Olympics Spring Games on Wednesday, April 19thWe are looking for responsible and energetic students to volunteer as athlete buddies.  Buddies help athletes get to their events and cheer them on.  This will be a fun and impactful day for student volunteers.  If you are interested in attending as a buddy, please fill out this application form no later than March 3rd.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Weakland

CONGRATULATIONS to Rayyan Syed ‘24 for representing Cannon and placing 1ST PLACE at the UNC Charlotte Science and Engineering Fair Region 6 in the Biological Sciences B category (Cellular and Molecular Biology). For the past six months, Rayyan has been involved in an advanced cancer genomics research project, the topic of his study being “Exploring the correlation between mismatch repair (MMR) genes and the fraction of genome altered (FGA) in Glioblastoma multiforme patients.” Upon placing first at the regional fair, Rayyan will advance and present his research findings at the state North Carolina Science and Engineering Fair (NCSEF) held at NC State University in March! Kudos Rayyan!!!
