You are invited to submit your work to The Ink, the Upper School’s literary arts magazine!
We are looking for poetry, prose, short fiction, essays, photography, drawings, prints, illustrations, photography, paintings, graphic design/digital artwork, multimedia work, and digital recordings of performances.
Read on for information on the process, and scroll down to your category to see how to submit your work by September 30.
Students can submit up to three (3) creative pieces of varying genres/mediums. Please include titles for all works. We’ve received a lot of “Untitled” selections, and encourage you to take this opportunity to be creative. Stick to appropriate topics and subject matter as we are a student-based magazine for a JrK-12 school.
POETRY — Submissions can be any length. Choose a pseudonym for your work, and include both it and your name on your submission. Print two copies of your submission and place in the English office Ink bin AND submit a copy via Google Drive to theink@cannonschool.org.
FICTION, ESSAY, and ALL PROSE — Submissions should not exceed 2,000 words in combined length. We accept fiction and nonfiction, including (but not limited to) essays, travel writing, short stories, flash fiction, and reviews. Excerpts from longer works are fair game, but please make that distinction clear during the submission process. Choose a pseudonym for your work, and include both it and your name on your submission. Print two copies of your submission and place in the English office Ink bin AND submit a copy via Google Drive to theink@cannonschool.org.
VISUAL ART — We accept drawings, prints, illustrations, photography, paintings, graphic design/digital artwork, and multimedia. For each work, please make sure that all files are high resolution. At a minimum, images must be 300 dpi at 8.5” x 8.5” for 2550 x 2550 pixels. If you are unsure of how to scan your art, see Mr. Rogers. Please include any specifications, captions, and/or other information you would like to publish with the piece in your email body. Share your submission from Google Drive to theink@cannonschool.org.
OTHER — If none of the above categories quite fit your work, do not fear. To name a few examples, we are also interested in publishing musical scores, short plays, screenplays, and innovative creative work. Use your imagination! If you are interested in submitting in one of these pieces, please contact Mr. Rogers.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 30.
