Aidan Finn displayed KINDNESS when he used his keycard to open a door for a teacher who didn’t have her keycard.
For helping a classmate out of an itchy situation, Colin Bullard has displayed great TEAMWORK in The Mill today!
Quentin Clarke shared his anti-fog glass spray with students and teachers so their glasses wouldn’t fog anymore. Thanks for your KINDNESS!
Deuce Rolle demonstrated great TEAMWORK when he led and encouraged others to participate in student life last week!
Destiny Thomas, Madison Bryan, Lizzy Clark, and Wylie Neal showed KINDNESS when they helped mount artwork on Friday for display in the Lower School. Thank you!
***Hey everyone! With Valentines Day coming up the Cougs for a Cause Club is running a fundraiser to help families in the Ronald McDonald House. We will be selling each candy gram for 1 dollar, and comes with hershey kisses! If you would like to purchase a candy gram, we will be located right outside Foundation Hall (during lunch and office hours) today, Thursday, and Friday this week. If you aren’t at school this week we will also be selling them next week (February 9th-11th). We will be handing them out to your advisors next week. Updates for the Block Love Supply Drive
The advisory that collects the most supplies will be awarded a dress-down day! To be qualified for the prize, each advisory must take a picture of all the supplies they brought in and send it to my email at aequan@cannonschool.org on February 11th. Sometime soon, boxes will be given to each advisor’s room to store your items in. On Friday the 11th, take the box of items to the atrium, where they will be picked up by Block Love Charlotte. Happy Black History Month! Over the Summer, Alicia Equan and I (Roshni Desai) did a program called Girls Who Code where we learned the basics of coding. One of our assignments was to create a website that talks about a social issue we care about. We decided to talk about racial injustices however, over the course of the year we have edited our website so that it can be shared with the Cannon Community during Black History Month. During advisory, we would love for you to visit our website and learn more about black excellence in different professions. As well as the personal experiences of each interviewee. We will be adding a new page to the site each week of black history month so, make sure to check back on it!

***Hello All My name is Josh Reid I am an 11th grader in Mr. West Advisory. My church and I are doing a reading book drive for the children at the promising pages organization. Promising pages organization is a non profit organization in Charlotte, North Carolina that collects books for underprivileged children. I will be setting up a box in the upper school atrium, on top of the stairs at the back entrance to the Upper School Building. Any books new to gently used will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Project Spread Joy is a non-profit organization that Joins Older Adults and Youth via Phone or Mail for sharing, caring, and laughter. The organization brings love and compassion to the community who needs it most. We hope you will join us to spread JOY!
Supplies will be given to advisors! We encourage you to grab a friend and write a nice letter during advisory, lunch, or office hours. We will collect all letters on Friday and the advisory with the most letters gets DONUTS!!

Black History Month Trivia Table

RHO KAPPA, Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. RHO KAPPA provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in the social studies.
The mission and purpose of this organization is:

- to promote scholarship and to recognize academic excellence in social studies in secondary school environments and the community.
- to provide through its local chapters opportunities for exploration in the social studies in secondary school environments and the community.
- to encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies.
Candidates for membership should:
- Have been in attendance at the school in which the chapter resides for the equivalent of one semester prior to being considered.
- Have completed four semesters of courses in the field of social studies and be prepared to complete at least six semesters. The minimum grade point average for these courses is a weighted 3.67 or the numerical equivalent.
- Have an overall cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or the numerical equivalent.
- Have a proven track record of interest and participation in service-related activities.
- Have a proven track record of strong attendance and positive contribution to a community of learning in a social studies classroom.

Art Expression for Everyone Series

All are welcome–no artistic talent needed to join!
Artwork serves as a visual documentation of our thoughts and feelings. Engaging in creating these images can offer solutions to problems and insights into the cause of these feelings. Join Ms. Cabellos and Ms. Hoffman for a short series of art expression exercises, both in person and online, to create, process, and share work in a safe group space.

Are you stressed out? Bored? Seeking greater insight? Just want a quiet place to be? Join Mrs. Miller on Thursdays at the end of lunch to practice a short meditation (10-15 mins). You don’t need any experience. Students and adults are invited. I will be meditating whether anyone joins or not, so feel free to slip in silently and join if you want. I will guide a short, secular mindfulness meditation. No commitment needed. Come once or every week.

I am helping to organize a tournament called the Georgia Junior Cup! This event will raise money for the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation, The Summit Counseling Center, and the AJGA’s ACE Grant Program. These programs provide money for low-income families with children that want to pursue golf! The money is used to buy golf clubs, pay tournament fees, and help pay college tuition for kids in need of aid. Click on the links above to learn more about each!

Spring 2021 Driver Education Program (Virtual)
This year, Cannon School has contracted with a local company to offer a virtual driver education program during the spring semester. Classes and behind-the-wheel instruction will be provided by WatsOnWheels (https://www.watsonwheelsnc.com/). WatsOnWheels has agreed to offer Cannon students a discount and provide the course for $350 per student. The classes will be held Tuesday – Monday, April 6th – 19th from 4:00 – 7:00, and the maximum amount of spaces available is 25.
Students must be 14½ years of age when the classes begin to be eligible to register. To complete the class, students must have thirty hours of class time and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. We hope to offer another class in the fall through WatsOnWheels,but we have yet to schedule specific dates.
After the class portion is complete, the instructor will coordinate with students individually to complete the behind-the-wheel requirements during their school drop periods or after school hours.
The $350 fee is due on the first day of class and may be charged to the student’s Cannon School account or paid in the form of a check made out to “Watson Wheels LLC”.

SACAC VIRTUAL COLLEGE FAIR 
The Southern Association for College Admissions Counseling (SACAC) will host a virtual college fair on February 11 from 5:00 – 7:45 p.m. EST.
