“I don’t want a Black History month. Black History is American History.” -Morgan Freeman
For my capstone, I’m getting people together to make homework kits, stem kits, and sight word cards for Classroom Central, an organization that provides school supplies and wellness supplies to children in needs-based schools. I have volunteered with Classroom Central for about a year now, and it is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart.
This will be on March 4th right after school in the library annex until 4:30. All of the supplies will be provided (and there will be snacks :)) I’d love to have you there! If you have any questions, feel free to email me firstname.lastname@example.org
***When you see Quentin Clarke, Claudia Joyce, Rebecca Jones, Rob Burlington, and Matthew Leonard, please congratulate them. They will be serving our community next year as members of our Honor Council.
Upper School students are not allowed to use the basketball hoops in the Middle School Rush Zone (near the MiLL). Thank you for your cooperation, and for respecting the Middle School’s space.
For my capstone, I am working with the Academy of Goal achievers which is an organization that works to address education disparities here in the Charlotte area. Education equality is something I have been passionate about for a while now and I am happy to be able to work with an organization that works so hard to address these issues. I am having a bake sale and raffle on the 27th and the 28th ( this Thursday and Friday) in front of foundation hall. I will be raffling off gift cards from places such as viva chicken and smoothie king and some other items. Everything at the bake sale will be $1-2 and to enter the raffle, it will be $3 or you can bring in one of the following items:
-New or gently used carry on suitcases
-New Shower shoes (flip flops)
-New Bath cloths
-Unopened Soap/ body wash
-A pack of Socks
-Small first aid kit
-old/ new Flash light
-New Twin sheet set
These items and money raised will be used to create care packages for the organization’s graduating class who are going to college in the fall.
A Pinch of Soul Food truck will be on campus on Thursday. Please take a moment to read the stories behind owner/operator Alicia Pincham’s inspiration of cooking.
March 9th at 6:30 p.m.: College of Charleston, Clemson University and University of South Carolina will host a student information session for sophomores and juniors at the Crowne Plaza, 5700 Westpark Drive, Charlotte. Session will cover: admission requirements, scholarship opportunities, financial aid and scholar programs. Please register at sc.edu/admissions/infosession to attend.
For my capstone, I am trying to recruit volunteers to help with Special Olympics, this coming spring. Special Olympics has always been an important part of my life; I started to help volunteer when I was in 5th grade with family friends and I have continued to go each year after that. It’s a special experience that I would love to share with our community, so I am looking for 20 volunteers to go with me! We will be going on April 9, which is a half-day. Since we will be missing actual school, we still have expectations for everyone interested in going.
You must be a Junior/Senior
You must have transportation
You must stay with your buddy until the games are over (around 1 pm), whether that be in the Olympic village, eating lunch (volunteers receive a free lunch), or walking around. If your buddy chooses to leave, we will find you another way to help.
Special Olympics has set a strict number of people we may bring, so please don’t sign up if you are worried that you may need to cancel or go out of town. *You must be committed to going!
Remember, this day is special for them, not you!
If you’re interested in volunteering, please fill out this form and we will get back to you with a parent permission slip. *You have until March 6 to answer the form.* Please be concise with your answers: https://forms.gle/rmqmq1hb8GgdHgMD9
