Ian Casey, Dylan Casey, Sam Hilbish, Jae Eklund, Will Zandhuis, Riley Venos, Miles Edmiston, Brody Shleck, Liam Peterson, Brayson Wilson,and Cam Shepard showed INTEGRITY when they set the bar for behavior at Zaxby’s one night.
Leighton Evans, Ainsley Edmiston, and Gates Ravin demonstrated TEAMWORK when they helped Dean Zelaya set up Foundation Hall for an important meeting.
Ainsley Edmiston demonstrated TEAMWORK when she helped another yearbook staffer distribute picture day QR codes.
Kendyl Lauher demonstrated PASSION for Yearbook when she orchestrated the distribution of all picture day QR codes for the whole school.
Ashwika Battu, Kate Booker, Will Cantey, Faith Carpenter, Gregory Olson, Matthew Stillwagon, and Emma Wittgraefe demonstrated RESPECT when they followed instructions, even though it was inconvenient to do so.
DJ Nix and Jadon Williams displayed KINDNESS as they offered to help take trays to the dining hall after lunch.

Calling all Cannon Students! The Cannon School Student Council is in search of students to join the Student Council Volunteer Corps. It’s fun, easy, and a great way to meet people across all grades! The volunteer group will be called upon to help with fulfilling Student Council service projects and initiatives. This is a great opportunity to gain community service hours and gain leadership experience. You can help where and when you want! This is a perfect way to see behind the scenes of Student Council and can propel you to run for an elected position in the future! History Club will meet on Thursday, October 3rd from 11:30am to 12:15pm in Mrs. Huffman’s room. Mrs. Huffman will be presenting photos from her trip to Korea.
Students for Constitutional Government will meet on Thursday, October 3rd from 11:15am to 12:00pm in the Library Annex. We will be holding elections for club officers.
The Cannon Student Council is managing a tailgate before Friday’s Homecoming game. Our doors will open at 5:30pm, and we will be offering delicious hotdog/hamburger combos for just $4 each.
Service Hours and House Points Opportunity
Volunteers are needed on Saturday, Oct 5th from 7-10:30am to help with the Homecoming 5k and Fun Run. Volunteer roles will include passing out wristbands to fun runners on the track, course direction during the 5k run, and more.

HELLO? ANYONE? I am writing a CUSP article for our 2nd Edition that is going to be published on Friday, October 4th. I am looking to interview anyone who remembers Arts Jam. The Cannon arts festival that you may remember from Lower School that is coming back this spring. If any of you have a favorite memory from Arts Jam, I would love to hear it!

King of the Court is right around the corner! We are super excited for the competition! Stephanie and I are deciding whether or not to order t-shirts that we will sell to students. Fall 2019 Driver Education Program
This year, Cannon School has contracted with a local company to offer a driver education program during the fall semester. Classes and behind-the-wheel instruction will be provided by WatsOnWheels (https://www.watsonwheelsnc.com/). WatsOnWheels has agreed to offer Cannon students a discount and provide the course for $350 per student. The classes will be held Monday – Friday, November 4th- 15th in Foundation Hall from 3:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Students must be 14½ years of age when the classes begin to be eligible to register. To complete the class, students must have thirty hours of class time and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. We hope to offer another class in the spring through WatsOnWheels, but we have yet to schedule specific dates.
After the class portion is complete, the instructor will coordinate with students individually to complete the behind-the-wheel requirements during their school drop periods or after school hours.
The $350 fee is due on the first day of class and may be charged to the student’s Cannon School account or paid in the form of a check made out to “Watson Wheels LLC”.

Homecoming 5k and Fun Run

After a fun night at the Homecoming game, join us Saturday, October 5 for this year’s annual Homecoming 5k and Fun Run!
Runners and walkers of all levels are welcome to participate. Participation fee is $20. Prizes will be awarded for the top 3 male and female runners.

Seniors: The deadline to apply for Cannon nominations for Jefferson, Centennial or Belk Scholarships is Oct. 15th. Submit the required materials to Dr. Wilner via email by 3 pm on Oct.15th. If you are uncertain of what to submit, please speak with your college counselor.
Juniors: The deadline to submit an application for Cannon nomination to NC Governor’s School is Oct. 15th.Materials must be submitted to Dr. Wilner as a printed packet by 3 pm on Friday, Oct. 15th. If you are interested in applying, please try to attend the LUNCH & LEARN about Governor’s School THIS Thursday in the CUBE. Also, let your college counselor know, and s/he will help you understand the requirements for applying (which includes two letters of recommendation).
Sophomores: Interested in a fantastic 3-day HOBY Leadership Seminar this summer? Please read about HOBY online and submit these two items to Dr. Wilner via email no later than 3 pm on Oct. 15th:
1. Brief paragraph detailing why you want to participate in HOBY.
2. List of activities/resume
Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores are invited to sign-up on Naviance Student to visit with College Admission Representatives coming to Cannon School. Students must get permission from their classroom teachers prior to attending an admissions event. Students who need assistance accessing their Naviance account or registering for college visits should contact their college counselor.
