CJ Newton demonstrated RESPECT when he pointed out an error a teacher had made in a respectful way.  Way to go, CJ!

Emily Cleveland helped a student in Lower School get his snack in the cafeteria and helped students in French class with vocabulary list.

Any student interested in have a PRIMO parking space for the year, and supporting the Class of 2019’s gift…email Dean Booker with a bid.  Deadline is September 7th at 3:15.


Seniors: TODAY August 27th English Drop – There is a MANDATORY meeting with College Counseling during your English Drop. Please report to the new Cube during your primary English drop period.


FRESHMEN: If you are interested in working with the Honor Council, applications are available from Dean Booker.  Deadline for submission is: Sepember 7th at 3:15pm. 


Students: We will have videographers on campus on Thursday, September 6. Please dress up for the day.


MUSICAL AUDITIONS!

Auditions for Cannon Theater Company’s winter musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” are happening September 4 and 11 (with some additional dates/times available for fall athletes.) All interested students grade 8-12 should follow the four steps/links below, which will also be accessible soon at www.cannonschool.org/ctc:
Step 1: Sign up here for one acting/singing time slot and one dancing time slot.
Step 2: Fill out this online audition form.
Step 3: Find audition instructions, scripts, and sheet music, here. It’s a google drive document that should be accessible by any Cannon student.
Step 4: Follow these YouTube links to hear recordings of the audition songs; male auditioners will sing “Accident Waiting To Happen,” (0:00-0:47) and females will sing “As We Stumble Along” (0:00-1:02.)

Seniors: The College Counseling Team will offer Drop – In Hours for Seniors in The Cube on the following dates: 9/18, 10/3, and 11/7.

(Please make note of this change in your planner)  There will also be a College Application Workshop on 10/10 from 9 – 11:15 a.m. in the CPAC


Do you have an interest or a passion that you want to share with the rest of our student body? Have you considered starting or leading a club? If so, fill out this Google Form to propose your idea for a club in the Upper School.  Club leadership is open to ANY Upper School student.  Deadline for club proposals is 8/31 by 3pm. We will have a Club Leader meeting on 8/31 during Student Choice in Foundation Hall to ensure you all have the information you need to be ready for Club Fair on 9/7!


Please be mindful of noise levels directly outside the Testing Center, and do not enter or use the Testing Center without a proctor present.


Student Ambassador Network

The Student Ambassador Network (“SAN”) is a group of Upper School students who represent Cannon School and demonstrate Cannon’s core values in their academic, athletic and artistic pursuits, both on campus and in their communities.  All Cannon Upper School students are invited to be active Cannon student ambassadors.  To get involved all you have to do is complete the Student Ambassador Profile (an 8-10 minute Survey) so we are better informed about you and your interests!  Please complete the profile by Friday, August 31.

Seniors: Park (NC State) , Bryan (Davidson College), Levine (UNCC)  and Morehead-Cain Scholarships (UNC) forms are due August 27th if you are interested in being considered for the Cannon School nomination. Your materials must be submitted by 3 p.m. on 8/27/18 to Dr. Wilner (bwilner@cannonschool.org). (No late submissions will be accepted) Additional information is available on the College Counseling Power School page or through your college counselor.


College Admission Events in the Charlotte Area:

8/27: University of Notre Dame, the University of Virginia, Washington University in St. Louis, Johns Hopkins, and Emory University will host an evening program. Register to attend. 7-9 p.m. Charlotte Country Day School, 1440 Carmel Rd.

9/16: Carnegie Mellon University will host an afternoon program.  Register to attend. 2 – 3 p.m. Charlotte Marriott SouthPark, 2200 Rexford Rd.

9/26: Tulane University will host an evening program.  Register to attend. 7 – 8:30 p.m. Providence Day School, 5800 Sardis Rd.


Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores are invited to sign-up on Family Connection to visit with College Admission Representatives coming to Cannon School.  Students must get permission from their classroom teachers prior to attending an admissions event. Log into your Family Connection account to learn more about the colleges, find out visit times and register to attend. Visits will be held in The Cube or College Counseling Offices.
