Muskan Uppal, Daphne Reynolds, Izzy Ortiz, Ian O’Neill, Greta Gruber, Alex Varghese, Celine Ortiz, Kayla Goldsberry, and Will Carey demonstrated TEAMWORK when they gave up a lunch period to share Advanced History tips with freshman and sophomores following in their footsteps.  Thank you all so much!

Alon Parker and Floris Stratman showed COURAGE when they laid out a sick beat for their class presentation.

Clay Mills demonstrated INTEGRITY and COURAGE when he informed his teacher that his grade and been recorded incorrectly even though the recorded grade was higher.

Alex Erdin demonstrated KINDNESS when he pointed out the wonky order of questions on a test so his classmates would not be confused. Thank you, Alex!

Seniors: The deadline to apply for Cannon nominations for Jefferson or Danforth Scholars is Oct. 25^th. Submit the Request for Nomination form, the required essay(s), and a list of activities/resume to Ms. Mann via google doc by 3 pm on Oct. 25^th.

Juniors: The deadline to submit an application for Cannon nomination to NC Governor’s School is Oct. 25^th. Submit the Nomination Cover page, Basic Info and Nomination Discipline Form, Essays 1 and 2, Personal Readiness Form, and 2 completed recommendation forms to Ms. Mann as a printed packet by 3 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 25^th at 3 pm.

10^th graders interested in a fantastic 3-day HOBY Leadership Seminar this summer should submit these two items to Ms. Mann no later than Oct. 25:

1. Brief paragraph detailing why you want to participate in HOBY.
2. List of activities/resume

Wake Forest Immersion Program will be on Campus!

Come learn about WFI program. WFI allows you to experience a career pathway for a week through hands-on activities, excursions and networking with leaders in various fields and industries.

Wake Forest will offer Institutes in: Biosciences and Engineering; Business and Entrepreneurship; Dance; Debate and Public Advocacy; Documentary Film; Health and Exercise Sports Science; Law; Leadership; Medicine; Neuroscience; Psychology; Sports Marketing; Sports Medicine; Technology; Visual Arts

Rustic Pathways  will be on Campus!           

Come learn about Rustic Pathways travel and service programs and hear from Cannon students who have been a part of Rustic’s programs.

10/27: Cougars On-Site Workshop for Juniors. Open to students in the Class of 2019 who are interested in finding a job or internship.  Topics covered include: Resume and Cover Letter Writing, Interviewing Skills and Networking.  This is an optional workshop presented from 9 – 2 during a school break.  A more in-depth course which will  allow students to complete a resume and cover letter, participate in a mock interview and etiquette lunch, and develop a networking contact list will be offered through the Winterm program.  Juniors who cannot take the Winterm course and are interested in the 10/27 COS Workshop must register by October 18^th by emailing Kristin McClanahan atkmcclanahan@cannonschool.org.  Space is limited.

College Admission Representatives Visiting Cannon School: Visits are open to current seniors, juniors and sophomores.  Students should register to attend on their Family Connection site and must request permission from the teacher of the class they will me be missing before attending.

Four year liberal arts college ”known for its academic rigor, Honor Code & beautiful arboretum campus”.

Northwestern University– Private, Urban, Evanston, IL, 8800 Undergrads

Consistently ranked as one of the elite schools in the midwest.  The school offers more than 124 undergraduate degrees and follows a 10 week quarter system. There is a very active student body participating in over 400 extracurricular activities.  Over 40% of the students participate in Greek life.

October 20th

Auburn University-Public, large town, Alabama, 21,800 Undergrads

With more than 140 undergraduate majors to choose from and a unique blend of colleges that focus on core curriculum &  applied sciences. Students consistently admitted to med school at a 30% higher rate than the national average.

Washington University– Private, suburban St. Louis, Missouri, 7400 Undergrads

Touted as a Midwestern alternative to the East Coast Ivies. Offers over 90 fields of study with a focus on interdisciplinary studies.  Known offer the best on campus food and dormitories.

October 23rd

Embry-Riddle -Daytona Beach– Private, Small City, Daytona Beach, FL, 5300 Undergrads

The world’s largest accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace. The school offers 46 undergraduate degrees.  The school owns their own fleet of various aircraft. 165 clubs and Greek life are available outside of the classroom.

Baylor University– Private, Suburban, Waco, TX, 14000 Undergrads

The largest Baptist university in the world and the oldest institution of higher learning in Texas. The school has 140 degrees to choose from and more than 25% of the students major in a business field. The school prioritizes hiring the “best” professors who are passionate about teaching.

October 25th:

Sewanee: The University of the South – Private, Rural, Tennessee, 1600 Undergrads

America’s only university owned & governed by the Episcopal Church.The liberal arts school offers outside the classroom study opportunities including a semester at Yale’s Directed Research Program. Also known for their Outing Club.

Rhodes College– Private, Small City, Memphis, TN, 2000 Undergrads

A liberal arts college, the campus is known as one of the most beautiful in the country.  Their “Compassionate Campus Initiative” promotes speakers, forums and classes to make Rhodes “a kinder and more mindful community”. There is a 10 to 1 student/faculty ratio and 75% of students complete an internship prior to graduating. Profiled in the book “Colleges That Change LIves”.

Kalamazoo College – Private, Small City, Michigan, 1500 Undergrads

Liberal arts college 35 miles from Lake Michigan.  Students required to coplete the “K Plan” which is a personalized course schedule that includes experiencial learning and independent research. Most students complete an internship or externship.

Wesleyan University – Private, Middletown, CT, 2900 Undergrads

Assumption College – Private, Worcester, MA 2240 Undergrads

October 30th:

Hofstra University – Private,  New York metropolitan area, 6900 Undergrads

Offers over 100 academic dual degree programs; 17 athletic teams that compete at the Division 1 level.  The university operates Long Island’s oldest public radio station.

Catawba College

St. Lawrence University– Private, Small Town, New York, 2400 Undergrads

The liberal arts college located between the Adirondacks and capitol of Canada offers access to international government, cultural & social opportunities & outdoor recreation.

Lynchburg College– Private, Small City, Lynchburg,VA, 2100 Undergrads

Offering 51 areas of study including the in-demand and hard to find majors. The school markets a tight knit student body where all students live on campus until senior year and the newly renovated student center.

Catawba College – Private, Small Town, Salisbury, NC 1300 Undergrads

November 1st:  –

Miami University – Public, Small Town, Ohio, 16000 Undergrads.

Offers 120 majors including a number of programs that focus on global markets.  Also home to a China Business Progam that offers hands-on experience overseas, language study and business coursework.  Miami has a strong Greek community with over 40 fraternities and sororities on campus.

Merrimack College– Private, Suburban, North Andover, MA, 3200 Undergrads A private college in the Roman Catholic, Augustinian tradition located 25 minutes outside of Boston.  It offers a strong co-op work program, small class sizes and 90 plus academic programs.

November 8th:

Wittenberg University – Private, Small City, Ohio, 1950 Undergrads The liberal arts university is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Students of all faiths are encouraged to participate in services. In addition to a full array of majors, the school offers cooperative programs with other US schools including: Case Western, Columbia, Washington University & Duke.

Ringling College of Art & Design– Private,  (urban) Sarasota, FL, 1200 undergrads

A noted innovative visual arts college with a highly acclaimed computer animation program.  Also lauded as “the Most Wired Campus in the US” by Us News & World Report.

November 14th:

Lynn University– Private, Large Town, Florida, 2000 Undergrads

Just three miles from the beach, the school offers career-focused majors that help you build your resume before you graduate.  Consistently ranked as one of the top five most international universities in the US.
