Krispy Kreme donuts for sale! The MS Student Council will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts from October 3rd– 13th in the quad during lunch. Plain glazed and chocolate glazed will be available for $8/dozen. Money is due when you place your order – no IOUs. Donuts will be delivered on Tuesday, October 17th. Money raised goes to support MS student life activities. Thanks in advance for your support!

October 11th!!!!

12th graders- Report to the CPAC at 9 am on Wed., Oct. 11 to work on college applications.  Make sure you bring your laptop!

9th-11th graders- Please check the windows by the front office doors (on Tuesday, Oct. 10) for your testing room assignment.

-Plan on arriving early on Wed., Oct. 11 so that you can be ready to test (in your assigned testing room with sharpened pencils and an approved calculator) no later than 8:05 am on Wed., Oct. 11.

9th and 11th graders– You are taking the PSAT on Wed., Oct. 11.  – Please check here for an approved calculator list.

10th graders– You are taking the PreACT on Wed., Oct. 11.  – Please checkhere for an approved calculator list.

What to bring with you on test day: An approved calculator, #2 sharpened pencils, water, a snack, and a book to read if you finish early. After testing concludes, you will be dismissed to eat lunch, and the remainder of the school day is an abbreviated class schedule. Please let Ms. Mann know if you have any questions.

 

Attention Cougars! Homecoming and the Fall semi-formal are right around the corner! This year’s dance will be full of surprises and treats as we celebrate our Cannon Community with There’s No Place Like Homecoming. Join DJ Phalse iD for a fabulous dance, great desserts, and a night of fun and entertainment! Tickets are already on sale. Please check out Ms. Eury’s email or see her in person to purchase your ticket. The tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The dance is in the café and outside annex on October 14th from 7:00-10:00pm. Hope to see you there!

Come learn about WFI program. WFI allows you to experience a career pathway for a week through hands-on activities, excursions and networking with leaders in various fields and industries.

Wake Forest will offer Institutes in: Biosciences and Engineering; Business and Entrepreneurship; Dance; Debate and Public Advocacy; Documentary Film; Health and Exercise Sports Science; Law; Leadership; Medicine; Neuroscience; Psychology; Sports Marketing; Sports Medicine; Technology; Visual Arts

Come learn about Rustic Pathways travel and service programs and hear from Cannon students who have been a part of Rustic’s programs.

10/27: Cougars On-Site Workshop for Juniors. Open to students in the Class of 2019 who are interested in finding a job or internship.  Topics covered include: Resume and Cover Letter Writing, Interviewing Skills and Networking.  This is an optional workshop presented from 9 – 2 during a school break.  A more in-depth course which will  allow students to complete a resume and cover letter, participate in a mock interview and etiquette lunch, and develop a networking contact list will be offered through the Winterm program.  Juniors who cannot take the Winterm course and are interested in the 10/27 COS Workshop must register by October 18th by emailing Kristin McClanahan atkmcclanahan@cannonschool.org.  Space is limited.

 

 10-12th grades:

College Admission Representatives Visiting Cannon School: Visits are open to current seniors, juniors and sophomores.  Students should register to attend on their Family Connection site and must request permission from the teacher of the class they will me be missing before attending.

Carlton College– Private, small town, Minnesota, 2000 undergrads

A liberal arts education that offers BA degrees in 32 majors.  The Carlton calendar is on a trimester system. 75% of students study off campus both domestically & internationally.

 

Brown University– Private, Small City, Providence, RI, 6600 Undergrads

According to Forbes magazine, it’s known as one of the more liberal schools in the Ivy League. There is an emphasis on academic flexibility and social action.  Students can form their own curriculum with no general education requirements. Career and internship placement has become a top priority of the administration.

 

Hendrix College- Colleges That Changes Lives, Private, Large Town, Arkansas, 1400 Undergrads

A liberal arts college with strong sciences program. the Hendrix Odyssey program ensures that every student takes part in hands-on learning experiences such as research, study abroad, internships and service.

 

UNC-Greensboro– Public, Suburban, Greensboro, NC, 16,000 Undergrads

Provides over 85 undergraduate majors- known for their nursing, arts and business schools.  The academic environment emphasizes collaboration and personal development over testing.

University of Notre Dame – Private, Small City, Indiana, 8500 Undergrads

Catholic college; ranks in top 10 % of students who study abroad; loyal alumni. Students encouraged to turn their learning to the service of others.

 

October 12th:

Johns Hopkins University – Private, Large City/Baltimore, Maryland, 6400 Undergrads

Known for STEM, nursing, engineering & public health programs. Touted as the #1 research university in the country. The school has campuses in Italy & China in addition to those in the Baltimore/Washington DC area.

 

Queens University of Charlotte– Private, Charlotte, NC, 1700 undergrads

Presbyterian-affiliated university where you can chose from 43 majors.  All degree programs are grounded in the liberal arts.

 

Boston College– Private, urban, Chestnut Hill, MA, 9100 undergrads

A Catholic research university committed to rigorous intellectual development in conjunction with religious, ethical & personal formation of its students to better serve the community & world at large. Home to the recently opened Center for Entrepreneurship.  BC students and alumni in the past decade have garnered more than $100 million in venture backing.

Samford University – Private, Large City/Near Birmingham, Alabama, 3100 Undergrads

A private research university rooted in Christian spirit.  The university offers 158 majors, minors, concentrations & pre-professional programs.  Students committed to community service.

 

Barnard College– Private, City, NYC, NY, 2500 Undergrads

A all-women’s liberal arts college located directly across the street from Columbia University. The school partners with Columbia for sports and extracurricular activities.  It offers over 60 different majors and most classes are under 20 students.  Over 40% of the incoming class identifies as a student of color and the school touts a large international student body.

Offers a three year accelerated program. Home to Batten Leadership Institute.  75% of students complete an internship & 40% study abroad.  Renowned creative writing program.

 

Worcester Polytechnic Institute – Private, Small City, Massachusetts, 4200 Undergrads

A research university that prepares students for STEM careers where 60% of students pursue an engineering degree. The Global Perspective Program allows students to learn in one of over 40 project centers on six continents.

A preeminent research institution founded with the help of a generous donation by John D. Rockefeller. All undergrads are required to complete the intensive core curriculum and may pursue any of the 99 majors offered.

Offers over 60 undergraduate majors.  The Jepson School of Leadership Studies, which focuses on ethics & critical thinking, is the first of its kind in the country.  Nearly 1/3 of all UVR students pursue business degrees.

 

Georgia Southern University – Public, Small City, Georgia, 18000 Undergrads

Offers more than 100 degree programs.  Largest Army ROTC in the Southeast.

 

Lafayette College – Private, Small City, Pennsylvania, 2500 Undergrads

A school for engineering and liberal arts. It is home to the Center for Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership (IDEAL) which provides connections to hands on learning and collaboration with outside organizations.

 

Berry College– Private, Large Town, Rome, GA, 2100 Undergrads

A liberal arts college with Christian values offering 43 majors as well as several pre-pofessional and dual degree programs. Emphasizes hands-on work experience and commitment to service. Known for its beautiful campus, small class sizes and individualized attention.

 

Rice University– Private, Large City, Texas, 4000 Undergrads

Liberal arts college w/ resources of major research university.  First university in nation w/ department wholly dedicated to space science. Known for biochemistry, bioengineering & biomedical engineering.

Haverford College – Private, Philadelphia suburb, PA, 1200 Undergrads

Four year liberal arts college ”known for its academic rigor, Honor Code & beautiful arboretum campus”.

 

Northwestern University– Private, Urban, Evanston, IL, 8800 Undergrads

Consistently ranked as one of the elite schools in the midwest.  The school offers more than 124 undergraduate degrees and follows a 10 week quarter system. There is a very active student body participating in over 400 extracurricular activities.  Over 40% of the students participate in Greek life.

Auburn University-Public, large town, Alabama, 21,800 Undergrads

With more than 140 undergraduate majors to choose from and a unique blend of colleges that focus on core curriculum &  applied sciences. Students consistently admitted to med school at a 30% higher rate than the national average.

 

Washington University– Private, suburban St. Louis, Missouri, 7400 Undergrads

Touted as a Midwestern alternative to the East Coast Ivies. Offers over 90 fields of study with a focus on interdisciplinary studies.  Known offer the best on campus food and dormitories.

 

October 23rd

Embry-Riddle -Daytona Beach– Private, Small City, Daytona Beach, FL, 5300 Undergrads

The world’s largest accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace. The school offers 46 undergraduate degrees.  The school owns their own fleet of various aircraft. 165 clubs and Greek life are available outside of the classroom.

 

Baylor University– Private, Suburban, Waco, TX, 14000 Undergrads

The largest Baptist university in the world and the oldest institution of higher learning in Texas. The school has 140 degrees to choose from and more than 25% of the students major in a business field. The school prioritizes hiring the “best” professors who are passionate about teaching.

 

October 25th:

Sewanee: The University of the South – Private, Rural, Tennessee, 1600 Undergrads

America’s only university owned & governed by the Episcopal Church.The liberal arts school offers outside the classroom study opportunities including a semester at Yale’s Directed Research Program. Also known for their Outing Club.

 

Rhodes College– Private, Small City, Memphis, TN, 2000 Undergrads

A liberal arts college, the campus is known as one of the most beautiful in the country.  Their “Compassionate Campus Initiative” promotes speakers, forums and classes to make Rhodes “a kinder and more mindful community”. There is a 10 to 1 student/faculty ratio and 75% of students complete an internship prior to graduating. Profiled in the book “Colleges That Change LIves”.

 

Kalamazoo College – Private, Small City, Michigan, 1500 Undergrads

Liberal arts college 35 miles from Lake Michigan.  Students required to coplete the “K Plan” which is a personalized course schedule that includes experiencial learning and independent research. Most students complete an internship or externship.

Offering 51 areas of study including the in-demand and hard to find majors. The school markets a tight knit student body where all students live on campus until senior year and the newly renovated student center.

 

Catawba College – Private, Small Town, Salisbury, NC 1300 Undergrads

 

November 1st:  

Miami University – Public, Small Town, Ohio, 16000 Undergrads.

Offers 120 majors including a number of programs that focus on global markets.  Also home to a China Business Progam that offers hands-on experience overseas, language study and business coursework.  Miami has a strong Greek community with over 40 fraternities and sororities on campus.

Merrimack College– Private, Suburban, North Andover, MA, 3200 Undergrads A private college in the Roman Catholic, Augustinian tradition located 25 minutes outside of Boston.  It offers a strong co-op work program, small class sizes and 90 plus academic programs.

November 8th:

Wittenberg University – Private, Small City, Ohio, 1950 Undergrads The liberal arts university is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Students of all faiths are encouraged to participate in services. In addition to a full array of majors, the school offers cooperative programs with other US schools including: Case Western, Columbia, Washington University & Duke.

Ringling College of Art & Design– Private,  (urban) Sarasota, FL, 1200 undergrads

A noted innovative visual arts college with a highly acclaimed computer animation program.  Also lauded as “the Most Wired Campus in the US” by Us News & World Report.

 

November 14th:

Lynn University– Private, Large Town, Florida, 2000 Undergrads

Just three miles from the beach, the school offers career-focused majors that help you build your resume before you graduate.  Consistently ranked as one of the top five most international universities in the US.
