The Spectrum Advisory Board will be hosting our first panel discussion in light of Hispanic Heritage month. Hispanic Americans within the Cannon School community will be sharing their personal experiences about being Hispanic in the USA. Come out and support these individuals while they share a personal perspective. We will meet during lunch on Thursday, Oct. 8th in Foundation Hall. See Dean Zelaya if you have any questions.
October 11 is National Coming Out Day, a day for LGBTQIA+ people across America to embrace who they really are and come out to their friends and family. To honor this day, the GSA is making Thursday, October 8, a t-shirt day for anyone who would like to wear PURPLE to show their support for Cannon’s LGBTQIA+ community. We hope to see you sporting purple!
Update on Driver’s Education Options The state legislature recently passed the budget which includes funding for driver’s education. This means that Cabarrus County Schools will again be offering driver’s education classes. All of our students are eligible to take the classes offered by Cabarrus County Schools since funding is tied to the county in which a student attends school. However, they have not determined if they will be able to offer those classes at Cannon or if our students would need to attend at a local public school. As soon as we have more information from Cabarrus County Schools, we will share it with you. In addition, Cannon will offer classes on campus through Helms Driving School on Friday, October 9, Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, and again on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18. All classes will be from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. each day. To register for these classes, please e-mail Joy Pinto. Helms also offers weekend classes (over the course of three weekends) at their facility in Charlotte. Licensing requirements mandate 30 hours of classroom instruction, followed by six hours of behind the wheel instruction with a licensed instructor.
