Public Proclamations:

LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER!!! Mrs. Hurtado is offering a brand new Beyond the Bell class, Habits for Successful Learning, for upper school students. Students learn and actively engage in study and organizational strategies that help maximize their learning while in class and when studying outside of class. The class runs for 8 weeks, from 9/8 through 10/27 on Tuesdays from 3 to 4 p.m.; cost is $128. Registration is available on the BTB website on the Cannon website.

NEW in College Counseling: Every Math drop day there will be a college counselor “on duty” that you can see without an appointment for ANY questions you might have.  Wondering about the redesigned SAT?  Need help with your college application?  Want to learn more about Governor’s School or other summer opportunities?  No appointment necessary on Math Drop Days!  Mr. Segura will be available on Wednesday, September 9 during your math drop period.  Stop by and get the help you need.

Class of 2019! Are you interested in leadership? Do you want to be a voice for your peers? Elections for Freshmen Student Council Representatives will be held during the Beach Trip. Please submit a typed speech to Dean Ramsey  and pick up a copy of the Student Council By-laws by Friday, September 11 at 3 pm.  Contact any current member of Student Council if you have questions.

Interested in swim team? There is a mandatory swim team meeting TOMORROW, September 9, during lunch in the new “Think Tank.” It is in Coach Northrup’s new room where Taylor Hall used to be. We hope to see you there, and get ready for another great season!

Sophomores: Break in your boots and earn House Points! Wear your boots every Friday for the next three weeks before the Outward Bound Class Trip!

Any students interested in becoming an ABT (asset-based thinking) certified mentor and working with the author of the book, Change the Way You see Everything, Kathy Cramer, please email Dean Booker.

Eight participants are needed to represent Cannon School at the upcoming Academic WorldQuest Competition scheduled for Wednesday, November 18th.  AWQ is a trivia competition consisting of questions focusing on contemporary politics, geography, and world history.  Participants will have dinner provided before the competition begins.  The highlight of the evening is having WCNC’s weatherman Larry Sprinkle serve as the moderator. Interested students should contact Mr. Kmidowski for more information.

Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores:  College Admission Representatives begin visiting Cannon School on September 2nd!  Please sign-up to attend sessions by registering on Family Connections.  Remember you must get teacher permission prior to signing-up.  If you need assistance with Family Connections or Signing–Up for a session please contact your college counselor.  For a complete list of who will be visiting Cannon this fall visit the Family Connections site – it is updated daily!!
