September 26th through October 2nd is Banned Books Week.

Banned Books Week is an annual event that spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools and brings together the entire book community in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even ideas that contain uncomfortable truths.

Members of the Peer Support Team & I’M FINE Mental Health Awareness Club invite all faculty, staff and 10-12th graders to attend:

QPR Suicide Prevention Training

TODAY, September 28th

11:15-12:30, during Lunch/Office Hours CPAC

Davidson LifeLine will be offering an optional QPR Training to all 10-12th graders in the CPAC.

(9th Graders will have a separate training in an upcoming Student Life block).

Many of you may be familiar with the national rising mental health crisis; 1 in 4 people will deal with a mental health crisis during their lifetime.

QPR is a 90-minute, nationally recognized, evidence-based training, created by the QPR Institute for Suicide Prevention, to assist with suicide prevention education. QPR training provides three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.

But just wanted you to know that we are open and ready to serve at 10:50am and our first LS students don’t even arrive until 11:25am. If you are having a hard time with lines coming in at 10:50 (prior to lunch) or at 11:10 (just after rush) you should be able to get in and out of the cafeteria fairly quickly.

I also want to let you know the best value for your dollar is our Daily Meal Deal. Which includes either of our two hot entrees, and any 2 sides (this can include, side vegetables, bread options, fruit, yogurt or anything from our salad bar that fits into a 9oz cup, any chip, any snack item or whole piece of fruit). Also with a meal deal you can get a 12oz cup for a beverage from our drink station.

While I’m thinking about our drink station. I wanted to let you know that there is a charge for any beverage from our juice machine, to our sweet and unsweetened tea and including our water works (infused water). Please see our cashier if you are just getting a drink from any of these stations. The charge is $1.40 and you may get a free refill during lunch times.  Just make sure you let our cashiers know. We are also trusting you with the honor system in that when you let us know on your refill that you have already made a beverage purchase

Members of the Peer Support Team & I’M FINE Mental Health Awareness Club invite all faculty, staff and 10-12th graders to attend:

QPR Suicide Prevention Training

Tuesday, September 28th
