AP Studio Art Talks Friday

This week you will start to notice exciting new artwork appearing on the walls around campus. On Friday, our AP Studio Art students will be exhibiting their work and giving artist talks. If you would like to hear our highest-level art students discuss what they’ve made and their ideas behind their work, we’d love to have you join. It’s always a great day for our students. Each talk will last for about 15 minutes and then they will hold time for questions at the end.

The Cannon Athletics Boosters (CAB) recognizes the passion, discipline, and personal sacrifice necessary to compete in varsity sports while also excelling in the classroom. To honor our young men and women who epitomize the attributes of commitment, leadership, sportsmanship, athletic ability, and academics, we annually award the Cannon Athletics Boosters Student-Athlete Excellence Scholarship.

Scholarship: One male and one female scholar-athlete will each receive a one-time $2,000 scholarship to celebrate their respective character, exemplary work ethic, and outstanding achievements.

Virtual driver education programs are available during the spring semester. Classes and behind-the-wheel instruction will be provided by WatsOnWheels (https://www.watsonwheelsnc.com/). WatsOnWheels has agreed to offer Cannon students a discount and provide the course for $450 per student.

The classes will be held Monday, April 21st–Friday, May 2nd from 4:30 – 7:30 (virtually). The maximum number of available spaces is 25.

Students must be 14½ years of age when the classes begin to be eligible to register. To complete the class, students must have thirty hours of class time and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.

Richelle Syer, Libby Swaney, J’Ericson Newby, and Malcolm Musinguzi showed TEAMWORK when they helped a teacher clean up a classroom before conferences!

Award-winning professional actor and Cannon alum Justin Weaks will present an interactive workshop for student artists and writers of every medium called The Power of Storytelling. Through conversations and exercises, Justin will lead us in unpacking the stories of our own lives, the stories we tell ourselves, our need for stories in our current culture, and the power we all possess in authoring a new story to be told. Justin will share his own story, focusing on experiences and tools that may help us navigate own creative journeys, and more importantly, our lives.

Anyone interested should join us on Thu Mar 13 during Office Hours 12:55-1:40pm.

Course Registration and petition requests are DUE TODAY!!! March 10 at 5:00 pm.  Please log into your Veracross student portal to choose your classes. Your course registration is completed when . . .

  • You have 7 classes listed. You should have 6 core classes and 1 alternate classes
  • Every class has a different group number (except your alternate)
  • Every accelerated or AP/AT class listed has a recommendation
    • If you want to petition for a course you were not recommended for, fill out the petition form. In your course registration, you should list the course you’ll take if your petition is not approved.
  • Your advisor checks a box telling us your course registration is complete.

Here is an example of what a completed course registration form should look like:

1- We know the weather is starting to warm up, and with that usually comes a wardrobe change. All US Students should review our Upper School Style Guide.

2—No student should use someone else’s key fob or ID number to gain access to the buildings on campus after hours or on the weekend.  This is a safety and security issue. Students in violation of this will be issued a consequence.

3- The parking spots behind the Gossage Building, Boswell Gym, and the Andrews Strength and Conditioning buildings are off-limits to student drivers- at all times.  Please do not move your car there from the student parking lot at 3 pm.  This also applies to students arriving for evening practices.

Please see your Grade-Level Dean if you have specific questions, or if something is unclear.

We will host a blood drive on March 6th, House Day of Service!  You will be helping the larger community, and Cannon receives a monetary donation for each unit of blood donated.  Students 16 and older can donate.  You must have parental consent if you are younger than 18.  Sign up HERE
