Candidates must attend the mandatory interest meeting February 29th during lunch (10:50-11:35) in Room 509. We will discuss eligibility, campaigning parameters, and speech requirements. 

Campaigns begin March 1st. 

Speeches are due March 18th by 3PM to Dean Williams

If you would like to make changes to your AP exam order, you may do so until Thursday, March 7. You should contact Mrs. Kulp (jkulp@cannonschool.org) immediately with your change(s). After Thursday, March 7, absolutely NO additions can be made to AP exam orders. Cancellation and late add fees do apply this year per College Board. No exam refunds will be issued after May 3. Please contact Mrs. Kulp ASAP if you have questions.

Students wishing to serve on next year’s Honor Council should reach out and speak with either Mrs. Lineberger or Dean Booker and submit a speech by Wednesday, Feb 28, no later than 3pm

Don’t be this person! Take Driver’s Ed this spring! 

A virtual driver ed program will be offered during the spring semester. Classes and behind-the-wheel instruction will be provided by WatsOnWheels .  The Cannon student cost is $450. Classes will be held Monday, April 22nd –Friday, May 3rd  from 4:30 – 7:30 Maximum number of spots available is 25.

Students must be 14½ years of age when the classes begin to be eligible to register. To complete the class, students must have thirty hours of class time and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. 

The $450 fee is due on the first day of class and may be charged to the student’s Cannon School account or paid in the form of a check made out to “Watson Wheels LLC”.

On Saturday, March 9th, CheckIt4Andretti is hosting their inaugural 5k run/walk and fun run/block party at Catawba College in Salisbury. CheckIt4Andretti is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of colon cancer, and is named for the late John Andretti, father of Cannon alums Jarett (‘11), Olivia (‘13), and Amelia (‘19). All proceeds from this event will go towards helping to fund free colonoscopies to those in need within Rowan County. You can register prior to the event using the QR code included here, or sign up at the event. Hope to see folks there supporting an awesome Cannon family!

Erin and Destiny want to share about their Capstone project:  For our capstone project, we will be doing King of the Court. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s when senior boys and junior boys compete in a volleyball match. HERE is a Google form for you to fill out if you’re a guy interested in participating. We hope to have a lot of people, so please sign up!

CAFTA Senior Art Scholarship: Apply Now!

Award: CAFTA will grant at least one talented Cannon Senior a scholarship starting at $2000.

Eligibility: Open to seniors with a minimum two-year involvement in Cannon’s visual arts, music, or theater programs.

Criteria: Selection is based on the student’s artistic leadership, character, dedication, and skill.

Deadline: Submit by THIS Friday, March 1, 2024, 3 PM.
Application Requirements:

  • Student Details: Provide your name and email.
  • Résumé: Include all art-related courses, clubs, activities, and awards from middle school and high school.
  • Essays: Write a short paragraph (250-350 words) on each:
    • Your artistic journey at Cannon.
    • Your contributions to Cannon’s art scene.
  • Optional:

Send your application and materials to cannoncollegecounseling@cannonschool.org by the deadline with “CAFTA Scholarship Application” as the email subject.

Students who are at least 16 and weigh at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood!!

Students who are 16 or 17 require written permission from parents.

Be a Special Olympics Volunteer!

Cannon School has been asked to take 30 Upper School students to volunteer at Special Olympics Spring Games on Thursday, April 18thWe are looking for responsible and energetic students to volunteer as athlete buddies.  Buddies help athletes get to their events and cheer them on.  This will be a fun and impactful day for student volunteers.  If you are interested in attending as a buddy, please fill out this application form no later than March 1st.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Weakland.

DEADLINE IS THIS FRIDAY!!!

RHO KAPPA, Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. RHO KAPPA provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in the social studies.

The mission and purpose of this organization is:

    • to promote scholarship and to recognize academic excellence in social studies in secondary school environments and the community.
    • to provide through its local chapters opportunities for exploration in the social studies in secondary school environments and the community.
    • to encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies.

Candidates for membership should:

  1. Have been in attendance at the school in which the chapter resides for the equivalent of one semester prior to being considered.
  2. Have completed four semesters of courses in the field of social studies and be prepared to complete at least six semesters. The minimum grade point average for these courses is a weighted 3.67 or the numerical equivalent.
  3. Have an overall cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or the numerical equivalent.
  4. Have a proven track record of interest and participation in service-related activities.
  5. Have a proven track record of strong attendance and positive contribution to a community of learning in a social studies classroom.

If you meet the requirements listed above, please request an application from Ms. Huffman at lhuffman@cannonschool.org no later than Friday 23 February 2024 at 3 pm. Applications are due back to Ms. Huffman no later than Monday 4 March 2024 at 3pm. Questions? Speak with any Social Studies teacher.
